Ohhh Romney-sama!

During the last election cycle, presidential at least, there were two fellows running on the conservative side of things. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. I’ve made a few comments about the Romney-Ryan ticket back when that was a thing. Aaand that’s about as political as this post’s going to get.

What I brought it up for is because during the election there was a funny picture that the wife found. Being anime fans we found this picture very amusing:

The wife is into Yaoi, very…very into Yaoi, so she found it in a porn-search. She didn’t like it sexually, it actually made her feel weird that she enjoyed the picture. But a while ago Paul Ryan was in the news again, being a replacement for John Boehner and speaking at the Republican Convention.

So we were reminded of that picture and decided to look at it, but we couldn’t remember which computer we had saved it on (was it the desktop, the laptop, maybe my flash drive or hers, or possibly even the external hard drive?).

So we jumped on the ever-faithful…Google. She felt we probably wouldn’t be able to find the picture, I said, “Why not? How many possible pictures like that could be out there?”

So, I searched for “Romney-sama” on Google images. And I was very surprised by the results…here are some of the better ones (all pictures link to their original locations).

Oh my…so firm.

obama-daisukiI have learned in my studies of Japan that Daisuki is the common way of saying “I love you.”  From what I understand it literally translates to “I kinda  like you.”, because Japanese people are apparently adorable.

They don’t stop at Obama and Romney or Romney and Ryan, either…

This one's just disturbing.

That one’s just disturbing.

After that last one, how about a nice calm, soothing Obama weeabo meme?

Okay, now that everyone feels littler safer in the world…

I love the look on Obama’s face in that picture.

And finally, a reminder that the wife’s hunt for Yaoi is what got us on this topic.

No Priced Books?

So last weekend Rich and I were out and about in Robinson and decided to stop at Half Priced Books. Why, you ask? Well, that’s a silly question, it’s easy, you can never have too many books!

tn-books01

So we made our way to Half Priced Books, giddy and excited about the possibility of finding new tomes filled with enlightenment. And maybe some yaoi manga, too.

Who doesn't dance at the thought of new yaoi.... I mean new books. Yeah, totally was gonna say new books.

Who doesn’t dance at the thought of new yaoi books. Yeah, totally was gonna say new books.

So you can imagine our despair when we noticed that the big Half Priced Books sign had been removed from the building. When we parked and got out, we saw that there was a note on the door stating that they had closed on September 3rd. Everything inside was packed up in boxes.  It was a sad, sad day.

We didn’t think it was possible to be sadder than a sad Ross.

NEVER MESS WITH SOMEONE’S YAOI!  It’s just not polite.

Yeah, right now I’d much rather have rain than snow.  I can’t wait for spring!

WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN THAT’S NOT HOW YOU MAKE FRIENDS?  Although if that is case, that would explain why I don’t have many friends.

Guest Post: Read This!!

Hi everyone!  I’m Mimi, Rich’s wife.

She was *very* convincing.

You may remember me….

I’m trying my hand at this blog thingy since Rich will be working on a game (maybe two) for a contest most of this month.  So I’m going to at least try to help.  This will be just a short, little post about a manga I just read.  I just wanted to let everyone know about it.

46585-legal_drug_vol_1_large

It’s called Legal Drug.  It’s pretty awesome.  It has a little bit of everything in it, comedy, drama, romance, some supernatural, and to top it off it has some Yaoi!  Yaoi makes everything better in my opinion.  The Yaoi is mostly implied, but it still counts; I’ll take what I can get.

That’s kind of it.  So, if you’re looking for something good to read that isn’t super long…

That's 29 out of...69.

That’s 29 out of…69.

…give Legal Drug a try.

P.S….

Yay for reading!

Yay for reading!

Tekkoshocon X Review: Day 2

-Friday-

We stopped to grab a quick breakfast and wound getting into the convention a little late, so we entered the Warriors of Romance of the Three Kingdoms panel a little late.  The guy running the panel had a rudimentary knowledge of the era and the characters involved, but he clearly was in over his head.  One thing that irked me was that he kept getting Liu Biao and Tao Qian confused.  But otherwise it was an interesting panel.

Then we went to a Voice Acting for Video Games panel run by Travis Willingham.  That man is frickin’ hilarious!  I loved his story about his X-Box live gamertag being revoked by Microsoft.  He does the voice of Roy Mustang for those who are fans of the Fullmetal Alchemist series.

We hopped in line for the Uncle Yo stand up, the first time we’d gotten to use our Premium Badges, for anything.  They cost an extra $30 apiece and we got them because last year, people with premium badges got placed at the head of the line before almost every panel we went to.  We were now into the second day of the con and this was the first time our premium badges had gotten us anything except a complimentary shirt.

Then we went to a panel about the Japanese language during the Heian Period.  It was filled with information and the guy was really interesting and funny in a scholarly sort of way.  I felt bad that I had trouble staying awake, but I’d had little sleep and the room his panel was in was the perfect temperature for a nap.  I managed to keep awake, but barely; even so it was an interesting and informative panel.

At that point it was time for a dinner break.  We hit the same place we went to the day before: The Sharp Edge.  It’s basically a gourmet burger joint and bar, but the BBQ wing bites are pretty good and the Belgian Chocolate Pudding is the most delicious dessert I’ve ever eaten.

When we came back from dinner we hit up the panel for Travis Willingham’s Shelf Life.  It’s basically four voice actors who got together and made a series of short comedy videos.  Actually that’s exactly what it is.  And it’s pretty funny, too; which makes sense, Travis Willingham is in it.

We finished out the night crammed in a tiny room playing Yaoi bingo, at my fiance’s demand of course.  I won my fiance a manga, but she won the grand prize of the night: A Stuffed Pikachu.  It was a fairly fun debacle, however it was supposed to be 2 hours of bingo in a room built for 200 people.  Instead the woman who ran the panel split the group up into two halves and each half got to play for an hour in a room that maxed out at 30 people.  The Tekko staff kind of dropped the bomb on that one, especially considering how popular Yaoi-related panels are at these cons.

Anywho, that was Friday.  We roamed about looking at some cosplayers and then went home and went to bed for some much-needed sleep.

Photopost: Flyers

I’ve recently found some pretty interesting flyers, or possibly psuedo-flyers, online.  I’m going to share some of them with you.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

First let me show my support of the Occupy Refrigerator Movement with this:

Support the Two Percent!

Here’s a flyer to sell a dog that the poor family just cannot possibly keep any longer, due to the economic situation and the rising scarcity of dog food.

That's a big puppy.

Here’s a lost/found flyer for someone who found someone’s ‘dog’.  Sadly, I don’t think he’s willing to return it.

Yes it is...very effed.

I think this guy might be a little lonely.

Well...is it?

Odds are you were looking for yaoi and found me, but I hope next time it really will be me you’re looking for.

Photopost: Superman-Batman, uhh, Yaoi? Maybe?

I never really commented on DC comics doing a total retcon of their entire history and universe.  Well…I still won’t.  Instead I’ve got a two-parter Photopost for you!  Superman enters the Batcave and innocently offers Batman some help with a clothing malfunction.  Here’s the first part…

And stay tuned to the next blog…to see the exciting conclusion to Batman vs. Superman.  The nippley battle of the…aw hell, never mind here’s part two…

Review: Black Bird, vol. 1-4

I talked about buying Mount&Blade while at a Half Price Books store, but let me now talk about the other things we bought.  Given my occupation I have plenty of time to read, but I have to constantly look up to examine bits of movement on a camera or examine passersby.  That being the case, full-text novels are ill-suited for my job posting.  But graphic novels and comic cooks are perfect!

As such my fiancée and I raided the graphic novel section and came away with some gems.  I got a pair of comic books about a Catholic Kunoichi (female ninja) named Shi, also the title of the comics, which sounded somewhat interesting and each comic was only 50 cents, so I got both of the ones they had of her.

We also picked up a copy of the Witchblade manga and a copy of the giant manga, Clover.  I didn’t have much interest in Clover, and I hesitate to take Withblade to work because it has an almost naked woman on the front covers and I don’t want people to think I’m reading pornography while on duty.

Nonetheless, we also picked up the first four issues of this little manga called Black Bird, by Sakurakoji Kanoko.  At the time I thought it was Yaoi, man-on-man comic book porn, because both of the characters on the front looked like flat-chested women; which is what yaoi men generally look like.

I come to find that it is actually a yaoi-like man, holding on to a sixteen year old girl.  That explains the flat-chestedness…that and she’s wearing a tight kimono which flattens them anyway.

The mixture of sweetness and humor is blended well in Black Bird and I find it speaks deeply to my own relationship with my future wife.  In more ways than I readily admit, actually.

If I could cite one problem with the story it is the main character Misao’s repetitiveness.  She has a tendency to repeat the same things multiple times in soliloquy-style thought bubbles.

But other than that, it is very nice artistically and it has a good story; especially suggestible for romance-buffs.  If you’re looking for nothing but hard-core action, you might be disappointed with Black Bird; then again if you’re looking for mindless action a Steven Seagal movie is probably more your taste than a manga anyway.
